K-Meleon (Review)

K-Meleon LogoAs (i’m sure) i’m one of the most frequent internet surfer in the world :P, i’m proudly say that i only have try 3 internet browser in my whole life. First, Internet Explorer. This one is sucks so bad i almost want to piss my monitor just to make it close. Lots of pop-up (i’m using IE6 at that time), i remember will comes up frequently and ruined your mood, especially the legendary one where it shows that you have win something and you have to click on somewhat lookalike to Windows System Message. My second and third is probably one of my best moment in internet browsing history. It’s Firefox and Opera. What could you ask for more? But recently, with my crappy classic computer, Firefox is getting harder and harder to use every time i update the firy fox. With 192 MB of memory that my computer had and one antivirus plus Yahoo! Messenger, my computer will be responding very fast, in the opinion of snail. While Opera, it’s sensational browser with lots of user-friendly features and definitely light too. But the problem is, lots of website that i frequently visit are not displaying correctly. This, according to myself :P, probably because of the layout engine that opera uses. Opera is using Presto as their Layout Engine, and the only browser that uses Presto is Opera. See the connection?

Okay, so after all the hardwork and effort that i put on maximizing Firefox to become lighter than before, i finally give up. I decide to search for alternative browsers. Then i headed to Wikipedia to find answer. The answer of my search finally comes out as a superb answer named K-Meleon.

K-Meleon, is a free open-source software released under GNU General Public License. It’s, i have to say still in development, so it’s very-very simple browser. Although the official website stated that K-Meleon is not a striped version of Mozilla Firefox, it’s definetely look like so. To shorten my words, just look at the screen capture of K-Meleon Version 1.1.3 that i currently use :

See? Well, the undeniable connection between K-Meleon and Firefox can be describe in 4 simple words. It is his brother It use same engine. Yep, both Firefox and K-Meleon are using Gecko as their layout engine, and that is one of the reason why i choose this browser as an alternative browser to Firefox. With the same layout engine, i’m sure it will display website correctly or atleast like Firefox, unlike Opera.

Another distinguish features about K-Meleon is that it’s very functional. There’s no such thing as un-needed plugin or tool in K-Meleon. It’s very simple but yet, functional. So i can say, it’s the perfect alternative for internet surfer that wants both fast and functionality.

In the conclusion, here is my final review for K-Meleon 1.1.3 :

Pros :

  • Free
  • Open Source
  • Fast
  • Functional
  • Use Gecko as layout engine
  • Very much in common with Firefox, so not needed much training to get used to

Cons :

  • The interface were waaaay too simple for me

Final Result : *****

Welcome To SetengahMateng.com

After a long period of laziness hiatus in Blogging World, I finally came back to this world with new things to offer. This is my new blog, my new journal, or whatever you may call it. It’s SetengahMateng.com, philosophically describing my personality as a blogger. It may not ripe enough for everybody’s taste, but sometimes, for somebody, this is the thing. Whatever that means :p

The reason why I created this blog is uniquely historical too. You may have read my old blog at blogger(http://gagahput3ra.blogspot.com). After one year of full-blogging kind of day, I got really bored and release my responsibility of blogging in that blog. I release it all. I’ve never even look at it for three full months. But in the fourth month, I’ve become so mad with myself for my irresponsibility and decide to write something about my comeback. Everybody read that and wait for my comeback. But in reality, I’ve never came back to that blog. Until three weeks ago.

Just three weeks before I write this opening announcement, I’ve also write some article in my old blog. It describes my difficulty on moving to Jakarta. The response of that article is not bad. Some of my old blogging friends came back and give comment on the article. Some even pray and hopes for me and my family. That awakes me of something I’ve never realize before. It’s not the blogging world that I love. It’s the blogger, who created the blogging world. I’ve forgot the core of all blog. The core is the reader. And for them I’ve created that blog. So why do I do not update that page?

Still, what is done is done. I hope that this blog will make me more responsible as it’s not free anymore :p and my father paid this blog using his credit card. I also want to thank my readers for still reading this blog. Thanks. And welcome to my new blog.
